Bakgrunnur og innblástur
Ég starfa jöfnum höndum við kennslu og á verkstæðinu mínu. Í grunninn er ég kennaramenntuð með áherslu á textílmennt og sögu. Ég held að það sé ekki laust við að það sem ég er að gera í dag beri það með sér. Hlutirnir mínir hafa oft sögulega og þjóðlega skírskotun.
Hugmyndir koma til mín alls staðar að, úr umhverfinu, blöðum, bókum, tísku og frá fólki í kringum mig. Nemendurnir mínir eru líka oft mjög gefandi í sinni frjálsu tjáningu og einlægu gleði.
Sem keramiker hef ég sérhæft mig í steyptum formum og endurvinnslu á gleri. Ég nota gamlar flöskur og færi í nýjan búning. Ég sandblæs floskurnar og móta í þær tappa eða set á þær einhverskonar viðbót.
Rennur er hönnunarlína sem ég hef verið að þróa undanfarin ár. Formin sæki ég í þakrennur og niðurföll. Línan samanstendur af bollum, litlum ílátum, kertastjökum og vegg/borð vösum í ýmsum stærðum og gerðum.
Background and inspiration
I divide my time between teaching and working in my studio. I am a teacher and I’ve emphasised on texile and history in my profession. I believe my current works are inspired by and reflect my educational backdrop. My objects often carry a historical and ethnical connotation.
My inspirations are gathered from all over; my environment, the newspapers, books, fashion and the people around me. My students too are a source of inspiration because of their joyful and ingenuous worldview.
As a ceramicist I have specialised in casted forms and the recycling of glass. I especially use old bottles, for which I create a new context and give a new usage.
The glides is a design serie I’ve been developing the last few years. I gather their basic structure from gutter- and drainpipes. The serie consists of cups, small containers, candleholders and wall/table vases in various forms and sizes.” Guðný Hafsteinsdóttir
